I have had recent problems installing external hd's on Vista 64. I have run into problems with USB2.0 as well as eSATA. The drive will appear under the device manager under "disk The drive works fine under XP. Xp recognizes the drive and loads it right up. I had the same exact problem with the usb drive.

Vista should be able to access a usb drive during setup. If OS is already installed and you aren't using the RAID array for the boot disc then you should be able to instal RAID drivers from Windows. Yes I can insert the installation disc when installing Vista but can only find the GRaid drivers.......bloody

I am new to Vista so I am not sure which drivers I should be installing or what the differences are, but I was able to fix both my USB and 1394 issues by reader in Disk Management (diskmgmt.msc) and assign it a "drive" letter to use (semi-)permanently, each time you remove and re-insert it into the USB port.
